Thought Of The Week: "Failure's hard, but success is far more dangerous. If you're successful at the wrong thing, the mix of praise and money and opportunity can lock you in forever." - Po Bronson |
|
| Hey, Since most of the world is gearing up for the obligatory annual evaluation of their lives and the ritual setting of resolutions for the new year, I wanted to share the quote above from Po Bronson's book, "What Should I Do With My Life?" Po interviewed hundreds of people who were engaged in work that they found fulfilling. One of the most interesting things he discovered was that people who were "making money" so they could "someday" do what they "really wanted to do" almost never did...get...around...to...it. If they were extremely successful in the "day job" they got addicted to the money, the praise, the benefits, the vacation time, the security. On the other hand, the people who basically said, "Screw it, I'm going for my dream..." weren't always successful. Sometimes they struggled. It wasn't always fun. But they had no regrets and a lot of them became extremely successful doing something they loved. Please understand, this is not a judgment if you have chosen one career path over another or a steady paycheck over the risk and uncertainty of whatever it is you've always wanted to do. There are days when a steady paycheck looks pretty damn good from over here. But if you have a dream...If there's something you feel deep inside that you came in to this world to do or to be...I want to encourage you to fan the embers...life is short. Go for what you want. Not too long ago I sat down for a moment to really think about this. I had a pen and a piece of paper. I asked for some guidance or insight from wherever that stuff comes from. I asked myself, "What was I truly put here to do? What was the greatest gift I had to contribute to the world. What would it be like to truly surrender to my music as well as to helping people heal and transform their lives?" After all, the "Clear The Fear Fast" workshops and Home Study system, the "Modern Jedi Mind Mastery NLP Trainings," for me were equally about clearing the blocks and "stuff" that was keeping me from getting my songs out into the world as it was helping other people to clear the stuff that was holding them back. The answer was clear, share my music and the tools of transformation that enabled me to overcome the "junk" that was keeping me from singing. So my friend, I challenge you. I dare you. I double dare you. I double dog dare you. Get out a pen and a piece of paper. And do your best to answer these questions: "What was I put here to do? Who am I really? What do I love doing the most? What strengths and talents of mine does the world need most?" Write down the answers. Put that piece of paper somewhere you can see it. Then start to do those things a little bit each day. However you can. Two years ago. I did this exercise. Afterwards, I started playing my guitar and singing songs I'd written over the past 30 years. Just one or two songs a day. I started acknowledging my songwriting in my "30 second elevator speech" at business networking events. Things started to happen. Exactly one year ago today, I wrote a song for my friend Bill Rodman's god daughter, Rilee O'Neill to sing. Today I just got back from the recording studio where we were putting the finishing touches on what has become a 10 song CD and a soundtrack to a play called "Letters to Daddy". There are rumors that it might "go somewhere...BIG" I've also just written a song for an organization called "Together We Can Save The World." They expect the song to be heard by well over a million people in the next 12 months... So again, what is it you really want to do? Write it down. Dare to be who you really want to be. -Mark |

| Modern Jedi Mind Mastery - NLP In Action Here's a video I found this week on YouTube that demonstrates an NLP technique we call "Submodality Shift." It's all about gaining mastery of the internal images we use to create "reality." Towards the end, the practitioner uses EFT to finish clearing the problem. It's a great example of why NLP is so safe and effective. The client does not have to reveal anything personal. He doesn't have to talk about the problem. It still goes from an intensity level of 10 down to a 1. Take a minute and check this out. It's a good example of the kind of work I do 1:1 with my clients. If there's anything you'd like to work on, please feel free to give me a call. It's confidential and you just might feel better fast. I'm also looking for volunteers so that I can create my own videos like the one below. Let me know if you'd like to be a part of that.
If for some reason you can't view the video, here's the link to YouTube.com |
